2013 Raoul Wallenberg International Essay CompetitionThe Raoul Wallenberg International Essay Competition, jointly organised by Student Competitions, The Swedish Institute and Raoul Wallenberg’s Academy, is inviting all students to take part in an international essay competition.

Raoul Wallenberg’s remarkable deeds and legacy act as an inspiration to individuals and young leaders that work for promotion of humanitarian spirit worldwide.


The participants are encouraged to reflect upon Raoul Wallenberg’s extraordinary life and come up with creative ideas on how, through their actions, they can inspire acts of courage, tolerance and unselfishness in the world!


Student Competitions, The Swedish Institute and Raoul Wallenberg’s Academy


The winners will be awarded gift vouchers worth €1000, €500 & €250!


31 December, 2013 (23.59 GMT)


  • Open to all students worldwide (Bachelor/Master/PhD), between 18-30 years of age.
  • The response should be presented in the form of an essay, with a maximum length of 1000 words.
  • Announcement of the top three winners on takes place on January 21st, 12.00 GMT
  • To enter, sign up for the competition here by entering your name and email.
  • Reflect on Raoul Wallenberg’s life and share your thoughts on how his qualities and humanitarian spirit have encouraged you to contribute to developmental and humanitarian work.
  • Submit the completed competition application on the competition website by the December 31, 2013 deadline.
  • Registration and application to the challenge is free of charge.
  • Applicants will be judged and scored based on the quality of their essay.
  • After all applications have been received by the December 31th, 2013 competition deadline, the top three winners will be notified of their standing in the competition.
  • The jury will evaluate the submissions and the prize winners will be announced on January 21st, 2013.

  • Applicants can only compete with one entry in the competition.
  • Applicants must apply individually.
  • Applicants must provide truthful and accurate information regarding contact and personal information.
  • Applicants must ensure that all text and other submitted materials are created and owned by the applicant. We cannot be held responsible for any unauthorized use of your entry by visitors to the competitions website.
  • After the competition is over, your submission and its contents may be used at the discretion of the competition organizers.
  • Only entries that are duly received by the closing date will be eligible for the competition. We cannot accept responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed or damaged. Proof of sending an online entry is not proof that we received it.
  • By entering this competition you agree that if you win you will participate in any promotional activities or material, without additional payment or permission, as we may request.
  • Non-applicants interested in the competition are also encouraged to register on the competition website. Registration will be required in order to receive updates on the competition.
