Articles should focus on an unsettled question of federal, international, or state tax law or policy.

Winning entries will be published in one of Tax Analysts’ weekly magazines and will be eligible to receive a twelve month subscription to Tax Analysts’ daily and weekly products after graduation.

2015 Tax Analysts Student Writing Competition


  • The contest is open to all students who are enrolled in a law, business, or public policy program.
  • Articles will be judged on originality of argument, content, grammar, and overall quality.
  • Papers must not have been published in any other publication or forum at the time of submission. If a student accepts an offer of publication before being notified regarding the results of this competition, Tax Analysts must be notified immediately.
  • Entries should be at least 2,500 words and should not exceed 12,000 words. Entries should correspond with the current Bluebook Uniform System of Citation, and all citations should be included as footnotes. Bibliographies and reference lists are not allowed.
  • Entries should be submitted as a Microsoft Word email attachment to Please include the following information in an attached cover letter or the body of the email:
  • Title of paper,
  • Focus (federal, state, or international tax)
  • Author’s name,
  • Telephone number, email, and mailing address where author can be reached
    through August 2015,
  • Name of school,
  • Year of expected graduation,
  • Name of professor who reviewed the paper (if applicable).
  • Entries must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on May 31, 2015. The winner will be notified by July 1, 2015.
