How To Create A 3D Book Cover In 3 Minutes [Screencast]

How To Create A 3D Book Cover In 3 Minutes [Screencast]

Here’s one of the most common questions I get asked:

How can I design a 3D cover for my book?

Yes, there are many methods to do this but most of them aren’t suitable for the average writer. You either have to:

  • Download and run a program;
  • Pay an exorbitant fee to the service provider;
  • Use a free trial software that leaves an ugly watermark on your book cover; or
  • Tweak the design for several hours before you get a desired result.

But here’s the good news:

There are also very good, fast and totally free methods to use. I earlier wrote about one of them here.

Luckily, I’ve recently discovered another free method of doing it which is way faster than what I used and taught in the past. And thank goodness, this new method even produces more beautiful 3D cover for your book.

SBSThat’s the method which produced the 3D cover of my newest book, SBS.

If you like it, here’s how to achieve the same great result for yourself and have people think you’re a pro.

If you’re a visual learner, here’s a video in which I demonstrated the whole process in less than 3 minutes:

If you prefer to read instead, then go on.

#1: Design your book cover in Paint (my personal favourite), Corel Draw, Photoshop or any other graphics design software of your choice and save it on your computer.

#2: Download the blank 3D book template below from HTMLGiant – it’s free. If you’re wondering how to download it, right click it and choose “save image as” to save it on your computer.

#3: Go to the Pixlr online editor and choose “Open image from computer”.

#4: Then from your computer, choose the 3D book template you downloaded in step #2 above.

#5: Click “Layer” and choose “Open image as layer” from among the options. Then, select your book cover saved on your computer in step #1.

#6: Click “Edit” and choose “Free distort” from among the options. Then drag the blue square boxes at the 4 edges of your book cover to the 4 edges of the template until it fits well.

#7: When you’re satisfied with the look, click your computer screen outside the book cover and answer “Yes” to the question, “Do you want to apply the changes?

#8: Click “File” and choose “Save”. Next, click “Okay”.

There you are!

Now, here’s the help I ask of you:

First, share this piece with your writer friends with the links below (they’ll thank you for it).

Second, whether you already have a book to publish now or you’re yet to write even the first word of your book, practice the above and tell me how easy it is in the comments (just use any image you have to represent your book cover).
