Moving Education Innovation and Essay Competition

Moving Education Innovation and Essay Competition

Moving Education Innovation and Essay CompetitionMoving education is a competition that explores how everyday movement can improve the learning experience of second level students.

Moving education is calling all thinkers and doers, solvers and makers, dreamers and pragmatists to submit ideas that can transform, revolutionise and disrupt the current understanding of second level learning environments. If you walk into a classroom today you will probably see the same layout that existed over a hundred years ago, rows of desks and chairs with very little opportunity for flexibility and movement.

Moving education welcomes multidisciplinary submissions that could range from product or furniture design, architectural/interior scheme, user interface or app, tools for educators through to a behavioural change strategy, service design solution or a communication campaign.

Topics

Moving education is interested in those everyday movements that can support physical well-being, mental well-being and educational performance. To help you explore where and how this movement can happen, the moving education brief has been divided into these four areas:

Environment – A lot of different elements make up a learning environment including furniture, storage, acoustics, lighting, materials and the space itself. How can these elements be shaped to create something more flexible?

Pedagogy – A teacher might teach a class or an individual student; and a student might learn on their own or in a group. How can 21st century learning spaces be developed to support this range of interactions?

Media – The tools we learn with can include everything from a pencil to an epad. How can low tech and hi tech be used to help develop, store and share knowledge and support movement?

Community – The classroom community, the school community and the wider community include a mix of individuals with different experiences, different backgrounds and personal needs. How can we use movement to connect these communities and meet those needs?
