Great Resources For Writers And Bloggers

Do you wish you could know the great resources every writer, blogger and difference maker should use to build his platform? You know, just get straight to what works best, and forget everything else?

Well, here’s your chance. Below are some of them. I hope they would help you tremendously as they’ve helped me.

Some of these resources are free while others aren’t. Some of them contain my affiliate links, meaning that when you make any purchase through them, I get a little commission (at no extra cost to you) to buy coffee. But I recommend these services because I’ve had personal experiences with them and found them to be of high quality.

Here they are:

Blogging Resources

  • Website Hosting Package: This can be compared to the physical structure where you’ll house your company, your files, equipment, etc. I have used a Nigerian host in the past, but I regretted every second my site was hosted with it, and had to dump it after using only 3 months of the 1 year plan I purchased. The hosting solutions I now recommend offer quality services, 24/7 customer service and affordable prices. They even give you a FREE domain name (other hosts sell a domain name for about N2,500/$15) and let you install WordPress with a single click. .
  • WordPress: This is the free blogging software that I use and recommend. It’s what ALL the pros use and it’s FREE. That link will take you to my comprehensive tutorial which explains how to get yourself a self-hosted WordPress site.
  • Graphene Theme: This is the free WordPress theme I used before I switched to premium themes. It has much flexibility and functionality and is suitable for beginners who have no budget. However, it’s not mobile responsive (i.e. it won’t display well for  mobile users) and it lacks a landing page template.
  • Genesis Studiopress Themes: Owned by Copyblogger, this theme store is one of the best (if not the best) places to buy WordPress themes. Their themes are powerful, flexible and mobile responsive, and they come with landing page templates. I use Generate, one of their themes, on Naija Writers’ Coach, and it’s great.
  • Compfight & Pixabay: These are FREE search tools with which I get excellent Creative Commons or Public Domains images to illustrate my blog tutorials.
  • Kraken: This service helps me optimize and reduce the size of any image tremendously without losing quality. Overall, that makes my website a whole lot faster.
  • Website Magazine: This is a free digital magazine for bloggers and website owners. If you have a website/blog and you’re not reading it, you’re missing out. Check it out and subscribe to their newsletter for free.
  • Blog Now Challenge: This my free 15-day email course on classical blogging will help any writer or blogger to set up his website, find a worldview, gather loyal audience and do blogging the right way.

Email Marketing

  • GetResponse: It boasts of being the world’s easiest email marketing tool and many people will agree. It’s an efficient alternative to Mailchimp and AWeber. Though I don’t currently use it (because my own newsletter is very complicated), I’ve had personal experiences with it and it’s a great service. To try it for 30 days absolutely FREE, click here and choose “Try It Free”.

Money Making Resources

  • Pen Money Masterclass: My 5-week practical email course designed for writers and bloggers who want to make legal, ethical and consistent income (at least N100,000 monthly) from their writing and blog here in Nigeria. Check it out.
  • Affiliate Goldmine: This is my brand new online training course which teaches bloggers — or intending bloggers — how to create value and make real income via pay-per-lead affiliate marketing. Get more details here.
  • Payoneer: This is an international Mastercard that you can get for free just by visiting their website and signing up. The Mastercard (ATM Card) would be delivered to your address here in Nigerian free of charge within 30-40 days and you can use it to receive funds from clients worldwide and from companies like Amazon, 2CheckOut and CreateSpace, withdraw funds from any ATM or make online purchases.

Writing Resources

  • Vertical Writing: This is one of my best books. It’s a practical, step-by-step guide to writing essays that stand out from the page. The tips and inspiration in it will surely help you murder your writing deficiencies fast.
  • The Writer’s Manifesto: This is a super-short free eBook by Jeff Goins which gave me a hard kick in the butt. It calls on one to stop writing for accolades and start writing for oneself.
  • Your Right To Write: This is my first eBook which has been downloaded by thousands of writers. If your dream is to become a real writer and influence the world, this is a book you can’t afford to not read. Did I mention that it’s FREE?
  • Elements of Style: This handy book by William Strunk takes care of most of the basic grammar challenges writers face. Download it for free by clicking the link.
  • Grammarly Editing Tool: This is a magical piece of software anyone who writes anything should possess. It helps writers corrects contextual spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and style. Check it out.
  • Write Well Challenge: This is a FREE email course I developed for anyone who wants to improve his writing proficiency. The course runs for 5 days and on each day, you’ll receive the lesson in your email inbox with simple, practical exercises that you can implement within few minutes and see huge results in real time.
